The cocoa sector faces several challenges, such as the low levels of productivity and performance, poverty, aging among cocoa farmers and prices volatility. All participants in the cocoa value chain, including cocoa exporters and importers, international development institutions and non-governmental organizations, recognize the need to improve the current situation of cocoa farmers. Major chocolate manufacturers like Blommer Chocolate, have recognized that the certification is not enough for the cocoa farmers to obtain higher incomes. For this reason, EcoKakao is developing sustainability projects like Aurora QTS to support the productive sector. However, the challenges go beyond the capacity of a single company, so it is necessary the support and joint of private and public entities that EcoKakao is implementing and leading in the Ecuadorian cocoa sector.
This project has been developed to improve the cocoa aroma and flavor profile by taking advantage of the privileged conditions of the Ecuadorian soil. SSASSANDRA Ecuador is a cocoa sustainability program that works in alliance with BLOMMER USA. Its main goal is to improve the productivity of small producers of cocoa and enhance their quality of life, by using tools such as technical trainings and delivery of agricultural inputs.
We establish a traceability system that guarantees information about the cocoa tracing on each of its processes from the production, postharvest handling and cocoa distribution. In this way, our system will be able to maintain a record of the cocoa until its final delivery to the consumer. Farmer, transport, exporter plant, transport, sea port, industry, consumer.
On a daily basis we work with dozens of Ecuadorian communities that are dedicated to the production of cocoa.
